Storm Ellen: Status Orange Weather Warning Issued For Seven Counties

A status orange wind warning has been issued for seven western and southern counties ahead of the arrival of Storm Ellen.

Severe winds are expected in Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Waterford on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

The status orange warning is valid from 9pm until 12pm tomorrow.

Met Éireann said: "Storm Ellen will track over Ireland on Wednesday night and during Thursday bringing a period of severe and potentially damaging winds.

"Associated heavy rain will also bring a risk of flooding.

"Due to the combination of storm surge, spring tides and onshore winds there is a potential risk of coastal flooding."

A lower level status yellow wind warning is in effect for the entire country from 9pm tomorrow until midnight Thursday.

It comes amid a weather advisory for the country from tomorrow until Friday evening.

Forecasters say "unseasonably wet and very windy weather is expected" - with potential unsafe conditions and some disruption.
