A talk by a controversial American Christian speaker who's called homosexuality "disordered" will go ahead at a church in south Dublin next week.

Our Lady Queen of Peace on Merrion Road says it will host Jason Evert next Wednesday as planned, despite a backlash from youth and LGBT activists.

Mr Evert of the was due to speak at five events aimed at teenagers in Dublin and Waterford.

But the events listing on his group's website has been removed -- amid reports that two of the talks have been called off.

Paula Fagan, chief executive of LGBT Ireland, says teenagers need support -- and called the views of Mr Evert's group "irresponsible".

"We know that between at least 8 and 10 per cent of every population will identify as lesbian, gay bi or other than heterosexual. That needs to be acknowledged. Young people need to be supported to understand that's normal, she said.

"The messages he's preaching are saying that somehow that sexuality and LGBT is a disorder, and that's just irresponsible -- it's not right."
