A former Fine Gael minister says time is running out for a new political party to emerge.
Lucinda Creighton - who left the party after voting against the Abortion Bill last year - says the group needs to emerge quickly.
The Reform Alliance TD says she's not sure if she'll personally be part of any new movement.
But she says the existing political parties won't offer the reform Ireland needs - so a new party will have to do it instead.
"The time is coming when people are going to have to make decisions," she told reporters at the MacGill Summer School in Glenties.
"We don't know when the next election is, but I think that it's probably sooner than people might have realised before the local and European elections.
"And so people start to think about getting organised and preparing," she said.
Asked if she would be personally part of any such movement, she said: "Maybe."
Creighton's comments echo the events of 2011, where the 'Democracy Now' group - intended to include the likes of Fintan O'Toole and David McWilliams - abandoned plans to contest the general election because of time pressures.
"I'm obviously not going to get involved in speculation about names," Creighton said today.
"I think it's important that people who are involved in politics - and understand politics, and have a proven track record in politics - will also get involved.
"If you just leave it to people who have never been involved before, it can end as it did in 2011."
Earlier Deputy Creighton had told the MacGill Summer School there were many people - both within and outside of the political system - who believed in a better form of politics.
"These people must soon stand up and be counted," she said.
