Transport Minister "Cautiously Optimistic" Indoor Dining Can Resume On July 5th

The Transport Minister says he doesn't want to "stop-start" international travel, and expects the roll-out of the Digital Covid cert to continue on July 19th.

The EU cert will prove whether someone's been vaccinated, had a negative PCR test or recently recovered from the virus.

"The way we've done this reopening in Ireland so far has worked. We've managed to keep the numbers steady" says Minister Eamon Ryan.

He is also "cautiously optimistic" that indoor dining will be allowed from July 5th, despite the Delta variant.

"I don't expect for that to change. Obviously, if circumstances change, we'll look at it again but I don't think it will".

The World Health Organisation says a cautious approach is needed when planning reopening.

The European Centre for Disease Control predicts the Delta variant of Covid-19 will represent 90 per cent of all cases in the European Union.
