Trinity College Dublin is the only Irish university to be included in the world's top 100.
The 2023 QS world rankings of 14,000 universities put Trinity in 98th place.
Other Irish universities went down in the rankings, with UCD in 181st place, down 8 places and NUI Galway placing 270th on the list, slipping down 12 places.
University College Cork lost its place within the top 300, ranking 303rd in the the world.
The University of Limerick slipped 11 places to 540 while Maynooth University also reduced slightly and has been ranked 801st on the list.
