Over 100 truck drivers staged a cross-border protest in the north of the country today to highlight the chaos that customs checks would bring.

A convoy of trucks made their way from Donegal and crossed the border into Co Derry where they came to a standstill for some time.

Truck drivers wanted to show how important the free movement of freight is to businesses and trade.

George Mills from the Irish Road Haulage Association says it's important to show what a hard border would look like

"We wanted to show to the world what an invisible border actually looks like," he said.

"That's what we've been doing here for twenty-five years - crossing an invisible border. If we have to go back to customs procedures it will be detrimental to our everyday life. It's OK for the Uk to say that's border is only two percent of their actual output. Only two percent of their trade crosses that frontier so it's not important to them and they don't seem to worry but it's one hundred percent of our trade."
