TV and film writers in the US are going to strike today for the first time in 15 years.

Around 11,500 members of the Writers Guild of America are walking out in a dispute over how they're paid in the streaming era.

Late-night US talk shows will be the first to be hit, with daytime soap operas likely to be next.

Employers insist they've offered "generous increases", but it hasn't avoided the work stoppage.

The previous strike lasted 100 days and hit production on major TV shows, including Glee and Grey's Anatomy.

Talk show host Jimmy Fallon, who hosts The Tonight Show on NBC, is backing his colleagues.

" I support my writers, but we have a lot of staff and crew who will be affected by this.

"But you know they gotta get a fair deal, so I'll do whatever I can to support them [because] I've got no show without my writers".
