Warm Spell Expected To Bring Temperatures Of Up To 28 Degrees
Very warm temperatures are expected nationwide over the next few days.
Temperatures could reach 28 degrees in some areas over the weekend.
Gerry Murphy from Met Eireann says there's strict rules for the definition of a heatwave.
"The criteria for a heatwave in Ireland is five consecutive days with a temperature of 25 degrees or greater.
"The hottest weather over the country in general will be Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday - which is four consecutive days."
However if some areas do reach 25 degrees today, it is possible that it will be classed as a heatwave in those areas.
Provisional temperatures from Met Eireann show it reached 25 degrees at 4pm in Phoenix Park in Dublin - which is the first day to meet the criteria of a potential heatwave.
Speaking earlier Gerry Murphy did say that if areas do reach 25 degrees today, they could be classed as a heatwave by the weekend.
He did say that regardless of it being a heatwave it will be very warm and it "would certainly feel like a heatwave."
