Woman Arrested In Relation To Car Fire Which Killed Two Children In Westmeath

A woman has been arrested in connection with the death of two children in a car fire in Westmeath.

Five-year-old Thelma and two-year-old Mikey Dennany died in the blaze on Friday, September 9th near Multyfarnham.

Their mother Lynn Egar was taken to hospital after being seriously injured in the incident.

Gardaí previously said they believed an arson attack led to their deaths.

Today, Gardaí released a statement saying a women in her 40s has been taken into custody over the incident

The statement said:

"Gardaí investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of 2 year old infant and 5 year old girl in a fatal car fire at Lacken, Multyfarnham, County Westmeath on Friday, 9th September, 2022, have arrested a female in her 40s.

"She is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in the midlands.

"An Garda Síochána will be making no further comment at this time."
