A surge in the number of traffic lights, speed bumps, cycle lanes and other “anti-car” measures can cost an economy billions.

The Institute of Economic Affairs in the UK has found that the huge increase in traffic lights, speed bumps and cycle lanes are bringing their road network to a halt, increasing pollution, make cars less efficient and costs the British economy billions.

The IEA, they say that none of the measures actually improve road safety.

The report claims that a two-minute delay to every car journey ends up costing the UK economy about £16 billion every year.

In Ireland, motorists will have also noticed a huge increase in the number of street signs warning of dangers at every turn, as well as speed bumps around every corner.

So, should we just go ahead and get rid of them all?
