Alisson leads well wishes to ill former Liverpool keeper Clemence

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has led the well wishes to one of his Anfield predecessors, Ray Clemence.

On Thursday, veteran commentator Clive Tyldesley revealed that Clemence was "a little under the weather at the moment" and encouraged people to send the 72-year old their best wishes.

Clemence is a legend at the Anfield club, for whom he made 665 appearances between 1968 and 1981.

He was between the posts for Liverpool's first three European Cup wins in 1977, 1978 and 1981, He also won five League Championships and the 1974 FA Cup.

Among the first to reach out was the current Anfield custodian, who tweeted the famous image of Clemence greeting The Kop upon his first return to Anfield with Tottenham.

"Everyone at LFC is with you as always", Alisson wrote.

It prompted a response from Clemence who said, "Thanks for the message I really do appreciate it. The support of GK Union is always special. Can I wish you and the team every success in the future. As you are realising it’s a special place to play."

Another member of that goalkeepers' union to tweet their support was Pepe Reina, who said, "You set the standards for all who followed and now we are with you."

Clemence went on to win an FA Cup during his time at Tottenham, and was on the bench the night Tony Parkes' penalty save handed them the 1984 UEFA Cup.

He won 61 England caps between 1972 and 1983, fending off competition at the time from Peter Shilton.
