Champions Shelbourne to start new Women's National League season with Dublin derby

Shelbourne will begin the 2022 Women's National League season with a clash against Bohemians.

The ten-team division will feature 27 matches for each side.

Having missed out on the title in dramatic fashion last term, Peamount United get their season up and running with a novel fixture on Saturday, March 5th.

They play host to new entrants Sligo Rovers.

Elsewhere on the opening day, DLR Waves meet Treaty United, who will play their home matches at Markets Field next year.

The other games see Cork City face Galway and Wexford Youths travel to Athlone Town.

It has also been confirmed that all games will be free on the LOI TV streaming platform, while TG4 will also broadcast a selection of matches.

League of Ireland Director Mark Scanlon says the WNL is in a good place ahead of the new campaign.

"This past season had everything," he said.

"Record attendances, televised games, new sponsors, greater interest than ever before and, of course, one of the most thrilling title races in the League's history.

"I'd like to thank SSE Airtricity for their tremendous support, while we are excited to again work with EVOKE.ie on the FAI Women's Cup after a record-setting attendance at a memorable Final in Tallaght Stadium. Thanks also to Bank of Ireland and EA SPORTS.

"We are working on a number of new initiatives ahead of the season kicking off next March as we aim to continue working closely with players, coaches, administrators, volunteers and key stakeholders to keep raising the standards on and off the pitch."
