Conlan's world title eliminator scuppered by ankle ligament injury

Michael Conlan's world title eliminator fight with Isaac Dogboe has been called off after the Belfast fighter suffered an ankle injury.

Unbeaten in his 14 professional fights to date, Conlan was due to face former WBO super-bantamweight championDogboe (21-0) on December 5.

However, Conlan suffered a ruptured ankle ligament in training.

The Olympian tweeted, "I’m absolutely devastated to announce that I will no longer be fighting on December 5th due to rupturing my ATFL during a training session on Wednesday.

“I’m back home now recovering. The doctor said I’ll be out for 8 to 12 weeks, but I’ll be back sooner, just watch!”

Conlan's last outing was in August and saw him stop the experienced Sofiane Takoucht behind closed doors at York Hall.

The 28-year old had been eyeing up the Dogboe bout as a final hurdle before a long-awaited world title shot in 2021.
