John Bailey passed away overnight following an illness.
It is understood that the Fine Gael councillor had been battling motor neuron disease.
Bailey was chairman of the Dublin County Board for ten years and played a key role in the redevelopment of Parnell Park during the 90s.
It is with deep sadness that we learn of the death of Cllr John Bailey, former Cathaoirleach of Dun Laoghaire County Council.
We offer our condolences to John’s family at this sad time. May he rest in peace.

A lifelong member of Cuala GAA club in Dalkey, he refereed the 1986 All-Ireland Senior hurling final between Cork and Galway.
Bailey was first elected to the council in 2004 in the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown constituency.
Sad to learn of the passing of Councillor John Bailey. John had a devotion to his family, his party and his sport.
He fought a brave battle these last few months with dignity and determination. My thoughts are with his family, each one of whom he was so proud.
