"I haven’t played enough" to make the Lions squad | O'Mahony

Munster captain Peter O'Mahony says he's not expecting to be picked for the Lions summer tour of South Africa.

The Ireland flanker, who skippered the tourists in a test against New Zealand in 2017, feels he's not had enough game time in recent months to earn a place in Warren Gatland's squad.

O'Mahony missed three games in this season's Six Nations due to suspension and sat out Munster's Champions Cup loss to Toulouse earlier this month through injury.

“I don’t think I’ve played enough rugby if I’m honest with myself," the Cork-native admitted. "That’s just the way the cards have fallen.

"Obviously the Six Nations is a big one at this time of the year and unfortunately that didn’t go very well with the way I ended up with the red card.

"That’s just the way it went and unfortunately I haven’t played enough to consider myself for that tour.

“But hopefully I’ll be looking forward to the tour with Fiji if that goes ahead and I’m picked with Ireland on that, so plenty to play for with Ireland and the Rainbow Cup now. I’m looking forward to putting a run of games together hopefully.”

Gatland will name his provisional touring party on the 6th of May ahead of the three game test series against the Springboks.
