Ireland youngster Harvey Neville signs pro Manchester United contract

Republic of Ireland under-19 defender Harvey Neville has penned his first professional contract at Manchester United.

The 18-year-old, who was previously on the books of Manchester City and Valencia, joined United's academy in 2018, following in the footsteps of his father Phil and uncle Gary.

United made the decision last month to retain all of their under-18 players for next year following the impact of the COVID-19 season and he's expected to move up to the Red Devils' under-23 squad for the 2021 campaign.

After making the move from the Mestella to Old Trafford two years ago, Neville converted from midfield to full-back and made six appearances in his debut season at United.

Born in England, the teenager qualifies to play for the Republic of Ireland through his mother's family and he made his Ireland debut in an under-19s friendly against Denmark at the Showgrounds last October.

"Proud to have signed my first professional contract with Man Utd," Neville wrote on his Instagram page after putting pen to paper on the deal.

"Thank you to all my family and all my coaches for their support".
