Liverpool given Mane boost but continued caution over Jones' eye

Sadio Mané has returned to training with Liverpool, but the Premier League club continue to show caution with Curtis Jones.

There was initial concern over Mané's fitness after he limped out of Senegal's 1-1 draw in their World Cup qualifier with Togo last week. However, the 29-year old took a full part in Tuesday's training sessions at the Reds' Kirkby base.

Liverpool return to action after the international break against one of the Premier League's form sides - Arsenal.

They'll do so without Curtis Jones, who remains sidelined with an eye injury.

The 20-year old midfielder came off the worst of an accidental collision in training, and was forced to miss Liverpool's 3-2 defeat at West Ham as a result.

Jones suffered damage to the eye itself, rather than the surrounding bone, according to the club, and will be out for a number of weeks.

“It’s a freak injury and very unlucky, but the important thing to emphasise is there is no lasting damage and his vision won’t be impacted beyond the recovery period," said Liverpool doctor, Jim Moxon.

“However, the nature of the issue means caution is important; we need to allow it time to heal and we can’t rush it, therefore it won’t be a speedy return.

“It needs to mend before we are able to reintroduce Curtis to full training, but there are things he can do in the meantime to maintain fitness.

“We can’t put a specific timescale on a return beyond it will be a number of weeks from now as it heals naturally, so it’s not one we will risk and patience is a virtue with this specific recovery.”

In better news for Jurgen Klopp, both Jordan Henderson and James Milner are expected to be fit for Saturday's visit of Arsenal to Anfield.
