Manchester United's Europa League game at LASK will be played in an empty stadium

Manchester United's Europa League last-16 first leg away to LASK looks set to be played behind closed doors.

Austria's Health Minister Rudolf Anschober has recommended that all outdoor events of more than 500 people won't be allowed in the country until the middle of next month.

Manchester United are to play the Austrian league leaders away from home on Thursday with the return fixture at Old Trafford in two weeks time.

"Following a statement from Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, Health Minister Anschober; Interior Minister Nehammer, we ask your patience at this time and more information will be available soon," the Austrian club announced on Twitter.

"Health Minister Anschober says that football matches will still go ahead meaning that no @EuropaLeague or @OEFBL games will be cancelled, but may be played behind closed doors. More information as the situation develops."

Meanwhile, all matches in Spain's La Liga will take place behind closed doors for at least the next two weeks to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The decision has been made after the league sought advice from health authorities in the country.

Barcelona had already announced that next Wednesday's Champions League clash against Napoli at the Nou Camp will be played without spectators.
