Rangers secure sensational loan signing of Aaron Ramsey

Aaron Ramsey has completed a remarkable loan switch from Juventus to Rangers.

The Welsh midfielder will spend the rest of the season at the Scottish Premiership leaders, having found minutes hard to come by this season with the Serie A club.

It's believed there is no option for Rangers to make the deal a permanent one in the summer as Ramsey will be entering the final year of his Juve contract, forcing wages to become a stumbling block.

Regardless, his signing can be regarded as something of a coup for the reigning Scottish champions, harking back to their cash-rich 90s heyday.

Ramsey's only Serie A start this season came in the opening day draw with Udinese. Since then, a mix of injuries and COVID-19 have blocked his path back into Max Allegri's plans.

The 31-year old is Rangers second deadline day signing, following the arrival of right-back Mateusz Zukowski from Lechia Gdansk.

It hasn't all been smooth sailing for the Gers, however, with Hearts rejecting a number of approaches for defender, John Souttar.

Ramsey said, “I had a number of offers on the table, but none matched the magnitude of this club, with European football and the chance to play in front of 50,000 fans every other week.

“I have had some fantastic conversations with the manager and Ross Wilson, and I’m really looking forward to working with both of them, and to meeting the supporters."

His delighted new manager, Giovanni van Bronckhorst added, "As soon as it was mooted as a possibility, I was really keen for us to try everything to get the deal done, and huge credit must go to Ross and to the Board for the work they have put in on this.

“I look forward to welcoming Aaron to the training centre tomorrow.”
