Atletico Madrid 1 Leicester City 0

Antoine Griezmann's controversial first-half penalty was the difference between the sides in the their Champions League quarter-final first leg. However there was also a big difference in quality between the sides at the Vicente Calderon.

The France international raced towards the penalty area before he was brought down by Marc Albrighton but it appeared that the foul took place just outside the box.

Griezmann dusted himself down and sent Kasper Schmeichel the wrong way in the 28th minute. Leicester failed to create a decent chance in the entire 90 minutes and they'll be without Robert Huth for the second leg at the King Power Stadium next Tuesday.

Several Leicester fans were arrested before the game as they clashed with riot police in Spain's capital.

Bayern Munich 1 Real Madrid 2

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as the holders came from behind to beat 10-man Bayern at the Allianz Arena. The German champions took the lead in the 26th minute when Arturo Vidal headed home from a corner. The Chilean had a chance to doube the lead from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time but he blasted his penalty over the bar.

Carlo Ancelotti's side were made to pay for that missed spot kick just two minutes into the second half when Cristiano Ronaldo turned in a cross from Dani Carvajal. Bayern were reduced to 10 men in the 61st minute when Javi Martinez picked up a second yellow card for a foul on Ronaldo.

And it was Ronaldo who took his tally to 100 European goals when he put the ball past Manuel Neuer 13 minutes from time. Bayern will be hoping to have Robert Lewandowsi back for the second leg at the Bernabeu next Tuesday after the Poland international missed out tonight because of a shoulder injury.

Borussia Dortmund 2 Monaco 3

This game took place less than 24 hours after the original tie was postponed when three explosions went off near the Dortmund team bus as they made their way to stadium. It was hard to imagine the Dortmund players would have been in the right frame of mind to play so soon after the incident and with team-mate Marc Bartra in hospital having undergone surgery on an arm injury sustained in the blasts. Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel said after the game his side felt "powerless" about the rescheduling of the match.

Monaco were 2-0 up at half time thanks to a Kylian Mbappe goal and Sven Bender own goal. The Lique 1 leaders also missed a penalty in the opening half when Fabinho dragged his spot kick wide with the game scoreless.

It was a much better second half for the home side and goals from Ousmane Dembele and Shinji Kagawa either side of Mbappe's second second strike means the German side are still in with a chance of reaching the semi finals.

Thomas Tuchel had some strong words for UEFA:

" We were never asked, we were informed by a text message that the UEFA made a decision in Switzerland. It felt lousy. And that sticks with us.

" It gave us a powerless feeling, like we had a job to do and nothing else mattered. It [the re-scheduling] didn't give us a good feeling. As though a can of beer had been thrown at our window.

"I encouraged all the players to take the game seriously. But football is not the most important thing in the world.

"We want to help all our players overcome their own internal conflicts from this. That was a bad experience.

"We wished for more time not only to process things but also to be able to play in our best form for our Champions League dream."
