RG Snyman returns to Munster after departing Springbok camp

RG Snyman's long-awaited return to action looks set to continue for a few more weeks at least after he left South Africa's training camp to rejoin Munster's squad in Limerick.

The World Cup-winning second row hasn't played since suffering an ACL injury on his debut for the province last August.

Having been on course to return from injury in May, he suffered a setback with his knee, before a freak accident with a fire-pit led to him requiring a skin graft.

Snyman did still link up with the South Africa squad for their Lions series preparations last month, but it's now been confirmed by the province that he has returned to Limerick in order to continue his rehab from both his knee injury and his burn.

The squad's pre-season training is now into its second week, with Simon Zebo linking back up with his new (and former) teammates in Limerick, along with fellow new signings Jason Jenkins and Rowan Osborne.

The province also delivered a further medical update, with good news in particular for scrum half Neil Cronin.

"Scrum-half Neil Cronin (knee) has returned to team training having sustained an ACL injury in training last October.

"Prop James French (hamstring), who is one of nine players promoted from the Academy to the senior squad this summer, has also returned to team training.

"Back-row forward John Hodnett, another player promoted from the Academy this summer, is continuing his rehabilitation after sustaining an achilles tendon injury last November," they said.
