Robert Lewandowski to miss Champions League second leg with Chelsea

Less than 24-hours removed from their emphatic Champions League win over Chelsea, Bayern Munich have learned they'll be without Robert Lewandowski for four weeks.

The Polish striker sustained a knee injury in the 3-0 victory at Stamford Bridge.

The game showcased the form Lewandowski's been in this term for Bayern, not only scoring his 39th goal of the campaign but also providing assists for both of Serge Gnabry's goals.

Bayern confirmed that the 31-year old fractured his tibia where it meets his left knee. The injury was discovered following examination by club doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt upon the team's return from London.

Lewandowski will spend 10-days in a cast and will only begin rehab afterwards.

As well as the second leg of their Champions League tie with Chelsea, Lewandowski will miss Bundesliga games with Hoffenheim, Augsburg, Union Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt.

He'll also be absent for their DFB Pokal tie at Schalke next week.

The news comes as a hammer blow to Bayern interim head coach Hansi Flick, with the Bavarian giants top of the Bundesliga table but only a point clear of RB Leipzig.

Flick will hope to have Lewandowski back in the saddle by the time they face fellow title hopefuls Borussia Dortmund on April 4.

Lewandowski's born the brunt of Bayern's goalscoring exploits this season, with Gnabry their next-best marksman on 17-goals, and Thomas Muller bagging 9.
