Snooker season to resume with free-to-air tournament next month

World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association chairman Barry Hearn says the highest health and safety measures will be place when snooker resumes next month.

The season will get back underway with the Championship League Snooker event in Milton Keynes where 64 of the world's top players are set to compete.

Judd Trump, Neil Robertson and Antrim's Mark Allen are among the players signed up for the tournament - which will screened on ITV4 between June 1st and 11th.

The 64 competitors will isolate in the on-site accommodation at The Marshall Arena and will keep two metres between each other and the referees during games.

Players must also use hand sanitiser before games and refrain from shaking hands before and after frames.

"Players who have any doubts about their own welfare can rest assured that all precautions are being taken," Hearn said of the competition.

"I am confident that there is no other major sport which can meet health and safety criteria on isolation and social distancing as stringently as snooker can, so we are able to return more quickly than others."

This year's rescheduled Betfred World Snooker Championship will be played at The Crucible in Sheffield between July 31st and August the 16th.
