Solskjaer: I’ve got my way of managing and I believe in myself

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has responded to Jamie Carragher's comments regarding his future as Manchester United manager.

The nature of Saturday's 4-2 defeat away to Leicester City has led to renewed talk over the Norwegian's suitability to manage the Premier League giants.

Defeat at the King Power was United's third loss in five games, and their fourth of the season in all competitions.

On Monday night, former Liverpool defender Carragher claimed United will never win a Premier League or Champions League under Solskjaer.

"He is not at the level of the other managers - in terms of Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel or Pep Guardiola," Carragher said.

"They’ve got years of experience behind them in terms of winning big trophies. Ole hasn’t got that. So, where he’s gotten them right now - he’s done a really good job."

United welcome Atalanta to Old Trafford on Wednesday night, ahead of the visit of Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.

With such a high-stakes itinerary, Solskjaer insisted he was taking no notice of the Sky Sports pundit.

"It doesn’t affect me but of course you see some of the comments," said the United boss, We’ve got Liverpool on Sunday as well so Jamie is always looking at these little things.

"I’ve got my values, my way of managing, I believe in myself, as long as the club believes in me, I'm pretty sure Jamie Carragher’s opinion isn’t going to change that."

Following Saturday's defeat, Paul Pogba questioned the mentality of the United dressing room.

“To be honest we have been having those kinds of games for a long time and we haven’t found the problem," the France World Cup-winner said.

"We have to find the problem. We need to be more mature and play with more experience, arrogance in a good way. We have to take the ball and play our football."

Despite dressing room disquiet, and stuttering results, Solskjaer maintains he has the backing of the club's hierarchy.

He believes they are making progress.

"There is pressure all the time," said Solskjaer, "There is pressure on me of course but we’ve been through this before and come through it stronger as a team and as individuals.

“I’m just looking forward to the response [on the pitch]. I’m in dialogue with the club all the time so there is an open and honest discussion all the time.

“We’ve progressed over the years since I was [first here for] half a season. Sixth, third, second. You can see the progress, development and improvement.

"This season we still want to improve. We’ve signed players that have raised expectations.

"Other teams have signed players and improved as well so we’re in the same boat as all the top teams.”
