Don't know if you caught any of the Westmeath Leinster Senior Football Championship match with Meath on Sunday but late on Royals goalkeeper Paddy O Rourke was sent off for a challenge in the dying minutes. It was Westmeaths  first ever Championship win over their neighbours. When Tom Cribbens side were leading by four points, a high ball dropped into the hands of Paddy O'Rourke. The Meath keeper carried the ball up field in search of a teammate. Just after releasing the ball, he collided with Westmeath's Kieran Martin.

Referee Conor Lane deemed the incident worthy of a red card. Later on social media the Skryne clubman was subjected to vile abuse including a threat to be knifed. The Gaelic Players Association has now advised players threatened on social media to contact the Gardai. The GPA is to meet with the Gardai to discuss threats being directed at their members. This carry on has no place in society never mind in GAA. Hopefully as a nation we can develop a zero tolerance policy on social media abuse which has cost lives in the past. It's time for prosecutions for perpetrators.
