Manchester United captain Harry Maguire looks set to miss tomorrow night's Europa League final, after sitting out their final training session in Gdansk.

The 28-year-old hasn't played since suffering ankle ligament damage earlier this month in their Premier League meeting with Aston Villa at Villa Park.

There had been hope Maguire could prove his fitness for tomorrow night's final with Villareal, with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suggesting he would do some running in this evening's session in Gdansk, and potentially have some involvement in the training session.

However, Harry Maguire was reportedly unable to take any part in the session, remaining seated in the dugout as his teammates trained, all but extinguishing any hope he'll be able to tog out tomorrow.

Meanwhile, his manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says a win tomorrow night would be a huge stepping stone for his players.

Solskjaer is yet to get his hands on silverware since being appointed manager in December 2018, with United's last trophy coming against Ajax in the 2017 Europa League final.

"This is a team that we've rebuilt in the last few years, hopefully this is the start of something more," he said.

"This is the best club in the world," he said.

"That's the pleasure and the pressure of Manchester United. That's something the players are ready for. They wouldn't have signed here if they weren't top players.

"These are big nights for us. It might be the stepping stone for a big future.

"This group of players has been working for a year and a half together. The next step for them is to enjoy a game like this - I've seen something growing inside of the players," he added.

Aside from Harry Maguire, United's only absentees are Anthony Martial and Phil Jones, neither of whom have travelled with the squad due to existing injuries.
