It’s that time of year again, the annual Topflight Today FM Ski Trip. This is no ordinary year though, 2019 marks the twentieth year of this, now legendary, trip. It’s grown from a crowd of eighty people to nearly 700 strong Irish skiers. It’s been the making of many a friendship and fling and we’ve lost count of the amount of Ski Trip weddings, it’s definitely close to the forty mark! Basically, it’s an absolute blast.

We’ve been joined on the slopes by some of the best Irish bands and musicians like The Saw Doctors, The Coronas and Picture This and this year, The Academic will be rocking out in the Festalm on Wednesday night. We arrived in Austria on Saturday night and the Today FM team headed out to the Festalm. It was all purely professional of course, we simply had to make sure everything was running correctly. It was Saturday night after all, so the alarm clock didn’t have to be set too early for the next day….

Sunday was all about Ian’s welcome night and celebrating our double decade celebrations. A massive crowd gathered on the side of the snowy mountain for a stunning fireworks displays, set to the biggest Irish hits from the last twenty years. It was MAGICAL!

On Monday, it was all systems go for the show and Iano was broadcasting from the Alpine Cabin, up on the mountain. He caught up with Michelle and Barry, who got engaged on last year’s trip. When Barry went down on one knee, Michelle thought he was fixing his snow boots and and got a right land when she spotted the diamond!

Later that night, we headed to the Festalm for the ‘Reeling In The Ski Years’ quiz which celebrated the music, movies, major sporting events of the last twenty years.

We were also joined by surprise guests, Mickey Joe Harte who blew the roof off with his performance of his number one hit ‘We’ve Got The World Tonight’ and Pat Shortt who brought the house down with HIS number one hit ‘The Jumbo Breakfast Roll Song’. The atmosphere was electric and so many people got involved by dressing up. It was THE CRAIC!

Mickey Joe and Pat joined us on the show this morning and both of them had an absolute ball last night.

We were also joined by Limerick hurler Gavin O’Mahony, who will be overseeing the Poc Fada with Paul Collins this afternoon!

We’ll be back tomorrow with more updates from the slopes and you can tune in tomorrow morning at 7am for the action, live!
