He was talking on the show yesterday with Ian and expressed his love for Ireland and the Irish audiences. Some listeners expressed cynicism – believing that artists offer these platitudes wherever they go.

But do they?

Are we not a particularly good nation for loving and appreciating music?

Artists like Garth Brooks, David Gray, Chris Rea and Josh Ritter have all become honorary Irish artists at this stage.

Here’s what the listeners had to say:

Good Morning Ian, during one of Garth's '94 gigs he played while we all sang 'If Tomorrow Never Comes', then on the inlay card of his The Hits album next to the song Garth put "Thank you Ireland for this moment"! We're definitely special! :-}

We sell ourselves as the land of "Cead míle fáilte" and when Artists say they love us we say they're lying?! #Ireland

Ian if u listen to the live CDd Garth made of all his live gigs the song on there from the Croke park gig u totally know it’s Ireland. We sing the whole song with him. Most places only ring the chorus we rock. Can’t wait to see Garth Brooks again.

Hi Ian, we are the best audiences and I can’t wait to go see Garth, he’s amazing live

Saw 4 high profile gigs in Toronto, Buffalo, Las Vegas in last 4 months and Irish crowds would put them to shame Ian! Zero craic

Aw Ian love it love it. ‘Friends In Low Places’ bringing back such good memories of college in Sligo with my buddy bears. Roll on July.

I remember one St Patrick's Day in the pub, and it was quiet but when I put ‘Friends In Low Places’ on the place went mad.

Ahhhh jeez, what else do they need? FFS his daughter is named Ireland, he has a song that's called "Ireland". I'm convinced.

I think Garth was stunned all those years ago. Remember he got the crowd to sing and he played guitar? #irishaudiences

Hate to be a cynic Ian but the reason artists love Ireland is the high rates we will pay for tickets and our event addiction - Garth has an advertising degree and  refers to his music as "the product".

Hi Ian, I am afraid they say it everywhere about the audience!  I'm Polish and remember hearing this all the time about Polish audience... Or, maybe Poland and Ireland are just the best in the world!?  ;)

What do you think?

It's almost 20 years since Garth played Ireland - a lot has happened since then...
