A wonderous weekend is upon us.. Electric Picnic is mere moments away.

And whether you want to wander in the woods, boogie at Bacardi or plonk in front of the main stage and soak it all up. There is three full days to let a mountain of music wash over you.

Meander away from the madness or melt into the masses with Paul McLoone's very special five acts to head along to this weekend.

The XX - Friday, Main Stage 10.30pm

The XX have taken their Mercury nominated album I See You on tour this summer and they descend upon the main stage on Friday. They recorded the new album in New York, the tiny town of Marfa in Texas, Reykjavik, Los Angeles and London.

I See You is undoubtedly a Jamie xx production with big influences and loud echoes of his 2015 solo album In Colour. Its also produced by Scotman Rodaidh McDonald who worked on their Mercury Prize winning album 'XX' and also on Coexisit.

Their set will be a strong start to the weekend.

Father John Misty - Sunday, Electric Arena 9.15pm

Father John Misty hasn't been back to Stradbally since he played drums with Fleet Foxes back in 2009. He returns with his third solo album Pure Comedy that spans from entertainment to human connection, from the environment to aging and capitalism to technology to fame and his role within it all.

The perfect wind down from the weekend.

Public Service Broadcasting - Saturday, Body and Soul 12.30am

London art-rockers Public Service Broadcasting's LP Every Valley is a concept album based around their interpretation of the Welsh mining industry. Band mate J. Willgoose describes the inspiration behind the piece as “It’s a story reflected in abandoned and neglected communities across the western world, and one which has led to the resurgence of a particularly malignant, cynical and calculating brand of politics”.

Float by them this Saturday at Body and Soul.

Slow Riot - Saturday, Other Voices 2pm

Blow off Friday's cobwebs with some bone-shaking bass from post-punk quartet Slow Riots at 2pm. The broody Limerick lads' rumbling set will be worth catching on a small stage while you still can. Watch back their #McLooneSession from last year.

Ships - Friday, Body and Soul 10.30pm

Taking their debut album Presession to the Body and Soul stage on Friday, Irish duo Simon Cullen and Sorca McGrath aka Ships are set to stun. Until then check out their #McLooneSession from this summer..
