Conte replaces Luciano Spalletti on a three year deal

Antonio Conte has been confirmed as the new Inter Milan manager.

The former Chelsea boss replaces Luciano Spaletti who was sacked yesterday. Conte signed a three-year deal and this is his first role since leaving Stamford Bridge last year. The former Italy national team boss has previously managed Arezzo, Bari, Atalanta, Siena and Juventus in his home country.

Winner

Conte won three consecutive Serie A titles from 2012 to 2014 with Juve. He was Serie A coach of the year on each title-winning year. In 2014 Conte took up the job as with the Italian national team following the resignation of Cesare Prandelli.

Conte led Italy to the 2016 European championships. They were knocked out on penalties by Germany in the last eight. The Italian had already agreed to go to Stamford Bridge before that European Championship.

In his time at Chelsea, Conte guided the Pensioners to a Premier League title in his first year in charge. The second year was less successful finishing fifth in the Premier League, but they won the FA Cup.

Absent

Conte has been out of management since departing Chelsea. He arrives at an Internazionale side who only just qualified for the Champions League. That qualification required a win on the last day of the season. They finished behind Juve, Napoli and Atalanta in Seri A last season. Inter do at least have the Milan bragging rights. Inter finished a point ahead of AC Milan, who are now manager-less, following the departure of Genaro Gattuso.

Targets

Conte’s top transfer targets are reported to be out of favour Manchester United Striker Romelu Lukaku and Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng. A deal for the Belgian striker is rumoured to already be at an advanced stage.
