Stephen Cluxton to stay with the Dubs for the 2020 season

New Dublin Senior football manager Dessie Farrell has confirmed that Stephen Cluxton is to stay on for another season.

The new manager - who spoke with Off The Ball today - also stated that Diarmuid Connolly is keen to be a part of his plans. Farrell spoke to Connolly in recent days.

Cluxton won the 2019 Footballer of the Year award and was said to be considering his future over the winter months.

However, confirmation today that the goalkeeper is to remain on will come as a significant boost to new boss Farrell, who took over the reins from Jim Gavin in December.

"Stephen is staying on, I'm delighted to say," the new boss told Off The Ball's John Duggan.

"He's been a fantastic servant to Dublin football and a player of his talent and experience is badly needed, particularly with a new management team coming in."

"So we're delighted that Stephen is going to be involved with the group next year."

It is set to be Cluxton's 20th season at inter-county level, during which time he has collected seven All-Ireland medals.

The 38-year-old is said to be recovering from shoulder surgery but is likely to have recovered in time to play some part in Dublin's Division One league campaign.
