John Egan hails Enda Stevens as 'one of the best' in the Premier League

John Egan believes that Republic of Ireland team-mate Enda Stevens is proving himself to be one of the Premier League's best full-backs.

The two Sheffield United defenders put in another fantastic performance for the high-flying Blades as they drew 1-1 away to Wolves on Sunday afternoon.

Stevens was severely tested by the threat of Adama Traore and fellow Dubliner Matt Doherty on the Wolves right side but Egan sang his praises after the game.

"He's playing brilliant," Egan told Off The Ball after the draw at the Molineux Stadium.

"He's getting better and better every game he's playing and I think he's probably one of, if not the, best left-back in the Premier League so far this season.

"Hopefully he can keep that going."

Former Ireland international David Meyler, who was on co-commentary duty for Off The Ball at the game, has also been very impressed with Stevens.

Meyler thinks that Stevens has shown how adaptable he can be at any level of the game.

"Enda is a prime example of someone who played a lot of football, with Shamrock Rovers, he went over and had a stint with Portsmouth," Meyler said after the game.

"I know he played at Aston Villa but you would look more at his time at Portsmouth.

"He's someone that has played a lot of football and is comfortable. He knows his game, he knows what he's good at, he knows what he needs to improve on.

"But he's just taken that....I think Enda's that type of player that, regardless of what league he's playing in, he would play in the exact same way.

"So if he was playing in League Two or like he was today in the Premier League he would play in the exact same way and I think it's great to see him play in the exact same way because he doesn't look out of place."

There is just one aspect of Stevens' game where Meyler would like to see some improvement.

"He's been brilliant for Ireland since he's come in and nailed down that left-back spot," added Meyler.

"The positions he takes up for Sheffield United are incredible. You probably want to see him getting more assists. That's me really nitpicking and being a bit harsh on him but that's what you'd like to see."
