Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has addressed reports that the Premier League champions are in talks with Championship side Preston North End in relation to signing defender Ben Davies.

According to reports, the Merseyside club is in negotiations with Preston and a deal worth £2 million looks increasingly likely before the transfer window on Monday night.

Liverpool have been plagued with injuries so far this season and are without a recognised centre-half.

Joel Matip,  Virgi van Dijk and Joe Gomez are all out with captain Jordan Henderson lining out in their back four alongside Nathaniel Phillips, but moving the skipper has marked a noticeable absence for them in midfield.

25-year-old Davies has just six months left on his contract at Deepdale and has been in talks with Celtic and Bournemouth regarding a move.

Other than Davies, Liverpool have been linked with a move for Arsenal central defender Shkodran Mustafi.

The Liverpool manager wouldn't be drawn on the possible signing when asked about it speaking to Sky Sports after their 3-1 Premier League win over West Ham on Sunday evening.

"I've nothing to say about it.

"Nat Phillips played a decent game tonight and Milli [James Milner] shouted at Hendo [Jordan Henderson] 'you better be careful if you play like this, you will play there for the rest of your career.'

"Our eyes are always open and we try to fix our situation if we can do it, if not then we play like tonight.

"With this line-up, you can play, the only problem is if something else happens and we come up a little bit short."
