Republic of Ireland slip in latest FIFA World Rankings

The Republic of Ireland have dropped three places to 50th in the latest FIFA World Rankings, with England jumping to third.

Stephen Kenny's men have only taken two points from their opening five qualifying games for the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

Draws against Azerbaijan and Serbia for the Boys in Green have put to an end hopes of reaching the finals.

England's performances in making the European Championship final have seen them leap to third.

That's their highest position in the charts in nine years.

Belgium retain top spot, ahead of Brazil.

World champions France are fourth, Euro 2020 winners Italy are fifth, Wales are 19th, Scotland are 45th and Northern Ireland are 47th.

The Republic of Ireland men's team earned their best ranking of sixth back in 1993.

The Republic of Ireland women's team are currently ranked 33rd in the world.
