Stephen O'Keefe will not play inter-county hurling next year after deciding to take some time away from the Waterford set-up.

Waterford GAA announced the news on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon, thanking him for all he has done for the county over the last 10 years.

The Ballygunner clubman, who won an All-Star in 2017 when Waterford lost the All-Ireland final to Galway, made his senior debut for the Déise against Wexford in the league back in 2011.

O'Keefe also lined out in the 2020 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship final earlier this month.

The 29-year-old kept a clean sheet and made two outstanding saves in the first 15 minutes to deny Limerick a goal, but the Treaty went on to win the game.

He also has a Fitzgibbon title to his name from his time at WIT.

He has eight Waterford Championship medals as well and was part of the Ballygunner side that famously beat Na Piarsaigh by six points in the Munster club final in 2018.
