Dublin’s Favourite Film revealed

The Dublin International Film Festival in partnership with Dublin City Council ran a vote to find out Dublin’s favourite film. The winning film will be shown at an outdoor screening in Smithfield this Saturday 26th July.

12 iconic Dublin films were shortlisted:

  • Adam and Paul
  • I Went Down
  • Inside I'm Dancing
  • Intermission
  • My Left Foot
  • Once
  • The Commitments
  • The Snapper
  • Quackser Fortune
  • Michael Collins
  • The General
  • Irish Destiny

The people have spoken - 1991 comedy-drama film The Commitments won the hearts of the Dubliners and will be shown in Smithfield on Saturday.

The film won the BAFTA Award for Best Film, as well as BAFTA Awards for Best Director, Best Editing and Best Adapted Screenplay. It was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy and the Academy Award for Best Film Editing.
