What Makes The 'Best Night Out'?

Today FM and Bord Gáis Energy want to find the ‘Best place for a night out’. It’s hard to whittle down, out of all those lovely restaurants, pubs and nightclubs you’ve visited over the years. Everyone has a different experience but, we all have ‘that place’. Sit down and have a think.

For me, it’s the local at home. Home home (you know what I mean). This is the place I grew up; it’s like an extension of me.  It’s the spot that I had some of my formative romantic experiences - bad first dates, better first dates, cheeky kisses in the snug and tears in the bathroom. It’s the place that I’ve spent happy hours with my closest and oldest friends, giggling and chatting, putting the world to rights.  If those walls could talk, I wouldn’t let you listen.  I’ve sang (badly) and laughed (loudly) and I’ve had steaming rows here too, it’s not all been roses. But, nothing that couldn’t be sorted over a pint and a chat.  I’ve sat on those lovely worn leather seats and celebrated Leaving Cert results and birthdays and now, anniversaries, engagements and babies. This place knows me. It knows where I’m from. The barman played football with my Dad and my cousin’s friend worked in behind the bar. I can walk in alone and not feel like a plank. I could meet my History teacher, my Uncle or the girl I worked in the local deli with. The local is the only place for a night out when I’m at home. When I think of Christmas Eve, I feel excited at the thoughts of walking into this place and the lovely twinkly, excited atmosphere. Everyone is out. Everyone is in good form.
