As this is the time of the year when many people will be looking to purchase a good Christmas read either for themselves or as a gift, we decided to ask Nadine O'Regan and Ronan McGreevy to talk us through, what they consider, the best non fiction picks of the year.

For the person who likes to laugh, Nadine recommends Graham Norton's The Lives and Loves of a He Devil.

If you are looking for a heartfelt story, Nadine highly recommends Simon Fitzmaurice 'It's Not Yet Dark.'

In 2008, Irish film-maker Simon Fitzmaurice was diagnosed with motor neuron disease and given just four years to live. His memoir It's Not Yet Dark is an account of his life pre- and post-diagnosis.

“Writing is my fighting,” Fitzmaurice writes. This moving book is part of his refusal to give in.

Ronan's picks include Ivan Yates: Full On, A Memoir, Judging WT Cosgrave, Hanging with the Elephant by Michael Harding and The Great War by Kevin Myers.
