The health service is on track to give the one-millionth dose of a Covid-19 vaccine today.

Previously the Taoiseach Micheal Martin said 1.25 million injections would be given by the end of March.

One million vaccines a month are pledged to take place between now and July.

It comes as the head of the HSE says vaccines "are now protecting the most vulnerable" in nursing homes.

Paul Reid says in the latest round of mass testing of residents, fewer than a dozen tested positive out of over 16,000.

There have been nine further Covid-related deaths and 443 new cases of the disease - with the 5-day moving average down 15% on last week.
