Homelessness charity DePaul says 14 babies were born into its service last year.

In its annual report, the charity says it helped more than 7,400 people facing homelessness, with more than a fifth of those under the age of 18.

DePaul is calling for urgent action from the government to stop what it has labelled "intergenerational homelessness".

CEO David Carroll says growing up homeless can cause issues later in life:

"The issue of child homelessness is considerable.

"Not having a really kind of stable friendship group around you because you're in temporary accommodation and the potential kind of impact that that has on your development going forward.

"Research shows that are more vulnerable to developmental delay."

Latest Department of Housing figures show there are 12,874 people registered as homeless in Ireland and living in emergency accommodation.

It's a 21% increase on the previous year.
