191 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the Republic of Ireland.

Meanwhile, a third person has died from covid-19 - a woman in the east of the country.

There are now 557 cases of coronavirus here, with 31% of those hospitalised, and 2% in need of intensive care.

The HSE is now working rapidly to identify any contacts the patients may have had to provide them with information to stop the spread of the virus.

Dublin has the highest number of cases, followed by Cork and Limerick.

Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer in the Department of Health, said: “I would like to extend my condolences to the family and friends of this patient.

“It is too early to see any impact of our social distancing measures.

This data underscores the importance of younger people to rigorously follow public health advice and social distancing measures.”
