A 41 Year Old Man Was Shot A Number Of Times

Gardai are appealing for witnesses into last nights shooting in Cork City.

A 41-year-old man was shot a number of times by a lone gunman as he got out of a car at Chapel Gate, Ballyvolane, at about 7.40pm.

The victim is being treated in Cork University Hospital, where his condition is described as stable.

Gardai investigating the shooting say the man is extremely lucky to be alive after being shot several times outside his home.

The man was stood outside his house at Chapelgate off Glenheights Road in Ballyvolane on the city's Northside when he was attacked by a lone gunman.

He was hit a number of times in the upper body and arms but didn't lose consciousness and was able to raise the alarm at his home.

Emergency services attended the scene and the man was rushed to Cork University Hospital.

Gardai have cordoned off the scene in the quiet cul-de-sac estate, and garda technical experts began a forensic examination of the area this morning.

No arrests have been made at this stage.
