A Paris court has heard Ian Bailey told a friend he had Sophie Toscan du Plantier and her lover over to his house twice for dinner when she was staying in West Cork.

The 62-year-old journalist is charged with voluntary homicide but isn't attending proceedings.

He has always denied involvement in Ms Toscan du Plantier's death.

On the second day of the trial, the court heard evidence from Bill Fuller who travelled to Paris from Schull in West Cork.

Sophie Toscan du Plantier was murdered at her holiday home in Toormore on December 23rd, 1996.

At court today, witness Billy Fuller said he recalled a conversation with Mr Bailey towards the end of January 1997, where he told him that he had Ms Toscan du Plantier and her lover over for dinner with him and his partner.

Mr Fuller said he remembered Mr Bailey telling him that her lover had reacted angrily when Ms Toscan du Plantier ended their relationship.

Earlier another witness, Amanda Reid told how her then 14-year-old son came home from school on the night of February 4th, 1997, having got a lift home from Mr Bailey who lived nearby.

She said the following morning he was upset and explained that Mr Bailey, who'd been drinking, suddenly announced to him that he had murdered Ms Toscan du Plantier.

Mr Bailey has repeatedly denied any involvement in the murder.

He's denied ever making any admissions in relation to her death and has also denied that he knew her.
