17th Century Chalice Stolen In 1998 Has Been Found

A valuable 17th century chalice has been found after being stolen in County Louth in 1998.

Gardaí have recovered the artefact that was taken during a burglary in Ardee town in Co Louth 21 years ago.

The safe it was in was found in Tallaght in 1998 - but the chalice was not inside.

However, gardaí were recently alerted that the chalice was due to be auctioned in Dublin.

The item was seized ahead of the planned auction.

The recovered artefact has now been taken back to Ardee, where it has been positively identified.

Gardaí are continuing to investigate the burglary.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the item over the past two decades can contact Ardee Garda station on 041-685-3222, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda station.
