There have been 988 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in the Republic, according to the Department of Health.

26 further deaths associated with the virus have also been reported in the past 24 hours.

24 of these deaths occurred in February, while one happened in January and one in October.

The median age of those who died was 81-years-old and the age range was 58 to 98 years.

The latest figures bring the total amount of cases here to 214,378, while the number of coronavirus-related deaths stands at 4,135.

Of the latest cases, 70% are under 45 years of age, while the median age is 32-years-old.

Regarding the nationwide distribution of cases, 378 are in Dublin, 68 in Galway, 61 in Kildare, 47 in Limerick, and 45 in Louth.

The remaining 389 cases are spread across all other counties.

Today’s cases, 5-day moving average of new cases, 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 population and new cases in the last 14 days (as of midnight 19 February 2021)

As of 2pm today, 719 people are now receiving treatment in hospital for the virus after 36 new admissions in the past 24 hours.

Of those patients, 149 are in ICU, down from 151 yesterday.

The 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 of the population now stands at 250.2.

It comes as three cases of the Brazilian COVID-19 variant have been found in Ireland for the first time.

Dr Glynn said yesterday that further studies are needed to determine whether this variant is likely to have an impact on vaccine effectiveness or infection severity.
