Health officials have announced a further 2,098 PCR-confirmed COVID cases this evening.

Meanwhile, 2,630 people registered positive antigen test results through the HSE portal yesterday.

This morning there were 933 patients with COVID in Irish hospitals – the first time the figure has dropped below 1,000 since mid-March.

There were 58 in intensive care – up five on yesterday and the same figure as this day last week.

Since PCR testing was restricted for the under-40s in mid-January, the National Public health Emergency Team (NPHET) has reported positive antigen test results uploaded to the HSE portal alongside PCR-confirmed results.

When both are included, the five-day moving average is now 4,340.
