Cost Of Producing Dairy Increases 39.5% In 2022

Wholesale electricity prices increased by 10% in the year to December.

CSO figures show there have been price increases measured across the economy.

Wholesale electricity prices are the costs that energy companies pay for power which is then supplied to homes and businesses nationally.

CSO figures show in the year to December the cost went up by 10% overall.

However, month-on-month - from November 2022 to December the price went up for energy companies by 93%.

Elsewhere in the economy throughout 2022, the Central Statistics Office said there was a 39.5% increase in the cost of producing dairy and a jump of nearly a fifth in the price of producing fruits and vegetables.

Wood saw a 25% price increase, while there was a 22% jump in the likes of glass, ceramics, and cement.

Construction products overall in 2022 saw an increase in the cost of 16%.
