The testing of close covid-19 contacts is to resume tomorrow, the HSE has confirmed.

The measure was suspended on New Year's Eve, as health authorities had reached full capacity for tests and had to prioritise people who had symptoms.

Close contacts of a confirmed case were not tested in this time and were told to restrict their movements.

However, this will end tomorrow with the testing of close contacts set to get back underway.

Meanwhile, the latest HSE data shows that 161,500 people have received at least one dose of a covid-19 vaccine so far.

More than 76 thousand healthcare workers have received their first dose, while almost 14,000 have received both shots.

Around 71,600 residents and staff of long term residential care facilities have gotten their first dose of the vaccine.
