Health officials have announced one further coronavirus-related death, taking the national death toll to 1,764.

Twenty-four new cases have been confirmed as well, taking the total in Ireland to 25,869.

There are currently 10 COVID-19 patients in Irish hospitals and five in intensive care.

Some 8,140 tests have been carried out in the last 24 hours.

Just over 49,500 tests were carried out in the last week – with 0.3% coming back positive.

It comes as officials are finalising the Government’s plan for a "robust and resilient" reopening of schools next month.

The plan is expected to be published after it is presented to Cabinet on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Irishman leading research into the vaccine being developed at the University of Oxford has warned that the majority of people will not be able to access it for some time.
