A Londis Store on Grafton Street was issued with a closure order last month after a dead rat was found under its deli counter.

On September 18th, officials from the Food safety authority inspected the shop at 49 Grafton Street in Dublin 2.

On the ground floor, a dead rat was found in a trap located underneath the shops deli counter.

It was then issued a closure order, after inspectors deemed the premises posed a grave and immediate danger to public health.

The retailer was among 11 businesses throughout Ireland found in breach of food safety laws over the course of September.

The remaining restaurants, takeaways, retailers and butchers are located throughout Dublin, Louth, Donegal, Meath, Cork and Mayo.

The food safety authority says some of the businesses were providing incorrect allergen information, while some staff were not washing their hands throughout cooking and service

CEO of the authority Dr Pamela Byrne says businesses must ensure they are complying with food safety legislation, as consumers need to have confidence that the food they purchase has been produced to the highest standards.
